Finding the right size
The right rug size is the difference between a room that feels finished and one that feels furnished. If you remember only one rule, remember this: when in doubt, go bigger. A rug that is slightly too large embraces a room; one that is slightly too small apologises to it. Decades of making rugs for real homes — and seeing how they live afterwards — have taught us that almost no one ever regrets the larger size.
Living room
Aim for the front legs of every sofa and armchair to sit on the rug — this visually stitches the seating into one composition and makes the whole room feel intentional. In generous or open-plan spaces, letting all furniture legs sit fully on the rug creates a true island of comfort. Typical choices: 200 × 300 cm for most lounges; 250 × 350 cm or larger for open-plan living.
Dining room
The test is simple: chairs should remain on the rug even when pulled out with someone seated. Allow roughly 60–75 cm beyond the table edge on every side. Round tables love round rugs; long tables want the rug to echo their proportions.
Bedroom
Design for the first thing your feet touch in the morning. A large rug placed under the lower two-thirds of the bed gives you softness on three sides; alternatively, a runner along each side of the bed delivers the same daily pleasure with less coverage. In a bedroom, texture matters as much as size — this is the room where bare feet do most of the judging.
Hallways and entries
A runner should leave a visually even border of floor on both sides — typically 80 cm wide, in lengths from 250 to 300 cm or custom-cut to your actual hallway, which we are happy to do.

Two practical tips before you decide
Mark the proposed rug edges on your floor with masking tape and live with it for a day — it is the cheapest interior-design consultation you will ever have. And check door clearance: a dense hand-knotted pile plus underlay adds real height near doorways.
