Slow by design
Sustainability isn't a claim we bolt onto our marketing — it's built into the way we actually make things. Every rug is woven only once it's ordered, dyed in small batches by hand, and made from fibres we can stand behind. That's not the fastest or cheapest way to run a rug business. It's the only way we're interested in running one.
Natural and reclaimed, by design
Our rugs are made from natural, renewable fibres — wool, jute and cotton — and, wherever possible, responsibly reclaimed materials like recycled cotton, respun yarns and repurposed leather that would otherwise go to waste. A number of our flat-weave and performance-friendly pieces are woven from yarn spun out of post-consumer plastic — a single rug can account for several hundred plastic bottles that never made it to a landfill or an ocean. No virgin plastics, no synthetic shortcuts, no fibres chosen just because they're cheap.
Made to order, not made to sit in a warehouse
Every rug is woven only once it's ordered. That means no unsold stock gathering dust in a container somewhere, no overproduction, and no waste built into our business model from day one — just a considered four-to-six week wait while your piece is made specifically for you, by name, not pulled off a shelf.
Small-batch, low-impact dyeing
Dyeing is carried out in small batches by hand to minimise water use and run-off, using processes chosen for their lower environmental impact rather than for speed. It takes longer than industrial dyeing. We think that's a fair trade for a rug that isn't harming the places, or the people, it's made by.
Built to be repaired, not replaced
A well-made natural-fibre rug can be cleaned, repaired and re-loved for decades — see our Rug Services page. We'd rather you keep one Monolith and Heart rug for life than replace a cheaper one every few years. That's the most sustainable choice we know how to offer, and it's the one we'd make ourselves.
