The Craft
Made by hands, not machines
No mass production or digital shortcuts can replace the human touch. Every Monolith & Heart rug passes through nearly 180 pairs of hands from raw fiber to finished floor art, turning sustainable materials into living heirlooms meant to be cherished for decades.
Explore the collectionWhy we make them by hand
In a world of fast manufacturing and synthetic shortcuts, crafting by hand is an act of patience. It gives a rug soul, unpredictable depth, and a tactile honesty that a machine can never replicate. When you run your hand across our pieces, you aren't just feeling wool or silk you are feeling weeks of dedicated human artistry.
From raw fiber to your floor
Step 1
Sourcing & Hand-Sorting
We use long-staple, sustainably sourced wool and organic silk. Raw fleeces are sorted entirely by hand to balance texture, durability, and natural lanolin content before spinning.
Step 2
Carding & Spinning on the Charkha
Master spinners tease and align the fibers through traditional carding, then spin them by hand on a wooden charkha. This creates an organic, uneven yarn texture that gives the finished rug its signature depth.
Step 3
Eco-Dyeing & Sun-Drying
Yarn hanks are dipped into vats of low-impact, eco-friendly dye to achieve our rich, earthy color palettes. They are then laid out to dry naturally under the Rajasthan sun.
Step 4
The Loom & Crafting
Sitting side-by-side at vertical looms, artisans construct each piece entirely by hand, tying hundreds of thousands of individual structural points with meticulous precision over weeks or months.
Step 5
Traditional Washing & Sun-Curing
Once off the frame, each rug undergoes a meticulous water wash with mild cleansers to extract residual oils, enhance knot strength, and lock in a buttery underfoot softness.
Step 6
Hand-Trimming & Sculpting
Final finishing involves careful hand-shearing and subtle textural sculpting (known as gulzarash) to give the motifs definition, crisp dimension, and a smooth, luxurious pile.
Built for real life, crafted for a lifetime
Natural fibers have an innate resilience. Wool naturally resists dirt and moisture through its organic lanolin, meaning your handmade rug naturally defends itself against everyday living.
Because we skip synthetic treatments and harsh chemical sealants, your rug arrives completely safe for bare feet, children, and pets breathing naturally into your space.
